Leaving for Nerom

Taneus & I decide that we're gonna head for the city of Nerom to see if we can find any more information on Zan.  Before we can actually leave town though, we're gonna need to get some supplies as the trip is a couple of days by horse.  Corny tells us that he plans to stay in Teryll for a while and help Meg get set up in her new place.  Meggit seems eager to join up with the new city guards, so it looks like he'll be staying in Teryll as well, but Luvana asks if she can come along.  It seems that Fazu told her to seek out the Temple of Obad-Hai in Nerom to follow her true calling.  So our first stop is over at Gilliam's to see about getting some horses and perhaps a cart.  He's more than happy to supply us with two horses and a cart since we help saved his business & home so recently.  So after we got them hitched up, we stop by the remnants of Meg's place to see if there is anything that Luvana can salvage.  Then it's a quick stop at Stape's Weaponsmith shop, as I'd like to see if he has anything a bit more to my liking than just my battle axe.  Finally we arrived at Wrend's place...  first thing I did was return the manacles we had borrowed the night before, then we stocked up on food for ourselves, a couple of bags of grain for the horses, a barrel of water, plenty of rope & canvas, a hammer & some nails, and bedrolls.  We had Luvana grab anything that she thought she'd need along the way and added her total in with ours, then we paid a fair extra amount to set up some credit with Wrend to allow Corny & Meggit to get some things they might need too.

We spent the rest of that day and the night there in Teryll to continue recuperating from everything we had gone through, and when morning came, we packed up everything into the cart, said our goodbyes and then made one final stop at the Garrison to buy a supply of arrows and crossbow bolts from Vorus.  Luvana climbed into the back of the cart to catch a nap.  She was probably up all night, excited about the prospect of heading out on her own.  Taneus & I lead the horses eastward until we hit the crossroads again, where we pulled off the side of the road to let the horses take a break.  Luvana had woken up from her nap, so we decided to give her a quick lesson on how to defend herself with her new quarterstaff.  Setting the bags of grain at the back end of the cart, which put them about torso high to a human, we showed her how to jab & swing using just one end of her stick at first, but then showing her how to use both ends to pummel an attacker.  While I was teaching her some finer points, Taneus spotted a speck on the horizon in the direction of Salaan.  Before long, he could make it out as some bird-of-prey.  It kept heading right in our direction, and finally came to land on the edge of the cart...  it's carrying a message from Fazu.  He lets us know that he was returning to the Burning Grove, and apologized for not telling us when he left.  After the bird flies off again, we turn our little group north on the road to Nerom.  As we are making our way, we can hear the distant rumblings of an approaching thunderstorm.  Taneus spotted some scrub trees not too far off, so we head that way to set up a bit of shelter.  We found two trees side by side and positioned our cart near them.  We unhitched the horses from the cart and tied them up to one of the trees.  Then we threw one tarp over our cart and secured it with rope, then we tied two corners of a second tarp to two corners of the cart.  Using some more rope, we were able to tie the two free corners of that tarp to each of the scrub trees and formed a bit of an awning in the space between the trees and our cart.  We gathered up a small amount of wood and set about making a little campfire under our little overhang.

To be continued...
